HAIR CYCLES
Hair follicles have three growth cycles. A hair only grows to a certain length, then it falls out, the follicle goes into a resting phase for 4-6 weeks then hair will resume its growth in that follicle. Very similar to hair types, the hair cycle has some impact on the effectiveness of laser hair removal. The three hair cycles are as follows:
Anagen – The growth cycle Catagen – Regression cycle Telogen - Resting or dormant cycle
Laser hair removal is most effective in the anagen cycle. Will not work in the telogen stage and not work very well in the catagen. Not all the hairs on one part of the body are in the same cycle at the same time. This is why multiple treatments are required for laser hair removal to be a total and permanent hair removal solution. The most effective treatment stage will be in dark, terminal anagen stage hair. This again places emphasis on the need for multiple treatments.
